They are plucky little dogs and as happy living in a flat in the city or house in the countryside.
They have a loving disposition, and are very active and intelligent.
OSCAR (Now owned by Michael Barnes)
HISTORY OF THE BREED
The cairn was first recognized by the kennel club in the 1900's. They were originally bred to work beneath ground flushing out rodents. Originally cairns, westies and scotties were one breed, and all three breeds could come from the same litter and sold according to what the buyer wanted.
As dog showing became more popular more uniformity was required.
When world war 1 broke out dog breeding and showing came to a halt but by1923 over a 1,000 cairns were registered.
Cairns come in a variety of colours from light wheaton to dark brindle, any colour is acceptable as long as there is no white present.
Cairns are smart little dogs and their intelligence makes them ideal for agility.
We are still learning about this lovely breed and are enjoying them immensely.
In October we were joined by Fraiser
